Who we are

Freeport construction company was once the subsidiary arm of the grand Bahama port authority for development/construction projects after the signing of the hawksbill creek agreement in 1955. FRECON, as we were commonly referred, became our logo and the emblem utilized on all our equipment.

Mr. Douglas Silvera, Sr., the president and owner of Freeport Construction since its acquisition from the GBPA in 1978, has headed the company since its inception in 1956.

Doug’s vast knowledge of the paving industry, both in design and construction, has made freeport construction the heavy civil company of choice in grand Bahama. Freeport construction has built and paved approximately 1000 miles of roads in the Freeport area, plus countless parking lots and much commercial and industrial site development for customers such as BORCO, Freeport Harbour and Freeport Container Port.

Freeport construction expanded its capabilities with the introduction of Bruce Silvera to the team in 1978. Bruce brought to the company the ability to expand the general contracting and metal building division. Bruce has managed large projects for FRECON such as Our Lucaya, Bahamas Brewery, Chub Cay, and Crown Ice.
